She joined the Department of National Archives as an Assistant Archivist (Technical) in 1983 and obtained her Ph.D. from the University College of London in 1990. She specialised in the field of Chemical Deterioration of Paper Using Fourier- transform Infrared Spectroscopy, as well as Stabilising and Strengthening of Mechanical Wood Papers. She also received training in the field of Training in Conservation, Restoration and Treatment of Film and Video Materials, National Film, Television and Sound Archives. Additionally, she trained in training in Non-destructive and Micro-Destructive Analytical Methods for the Conservation of Works of Art and Historic Buildings
     
Her main interest was in paper chemistry and archival conservation, particularly in research related to the deterioration of paper, capping lignin, strengthening paper and conservation and preservation of photographic material and magnetic media. She participated in many international seminars, presented many papers on conservation, and made some publications on Conservation of paper records and audiovisual records. She served as the President of the South West Asia Regional Branch of the International Council on Archives (SWARBICA) from 2012 to 2017. She was appointed as the Director National Archives on March 9, 2014, and with the restructuring of the National Archives she became the first Director General National Archives, serving in this department until her retirement in 2017.
